The new 40mm Explorer is definitely on my radar from the new releases (that and the 42mm Ti Yachtmaster). I've been looking at 39mm Mk 2 Explorers for a while but haven't pulled the trigger. I thought I'd make a quick comparison shot to see the differences (new on the left, old on the right). I received my Explorer 40MM today, after expressing interest less than 8 weeks ago. No purchase history either. I was polite, consistent, and enthusiastic - as I would be for any high-value purchase (like buying a house, for example). Initial impressions are good. I was encouraged to sign up for this before being able to access the explorer.
I generally agree 36 is too small for most men. The 40mm looks much better than the 36mm, but Rolex should have went to 42mm. The ‘36 crowd would swear a 36.01246mm is a dinner plate, and will never accept anything else. A 42mm Explorer would have been in line with most other field watches. I have been lucky to have picked up the 40m Explorer after turning down the 36m a few months ago as the dial was too small for my wrist.
