Over the seven years Chloé Jafé stayed in Japan she developed a viscerally personal voice that is both plastic and documentary. Her immersion in Japan bore images of steel – sweaty and harsh, black and white, tender and ferocious – which reveal an unprecedented angle of an opaque country. Chloé Jafé infiltrated the closed world of the yakuza and focused on their wives and their tattoos. See her series 'Inochi Azukemasu', a tribute to the women who play a crucial role in the Japanese mafia.
