Press a soft, tacky rubber ball against the back of a screw-back watch and twist counterclockwise to loosen the watch.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with opening a Rolex caseback if you have the correct dies and tools and you have reasonably good coordination. Get the cheap stuff and you'll slip and scratch for sure.
